Aesthetic design is great and installation simple. However, the new Level Lock+ model has serious battery drain issues. And the CR2 batteries are not cheap $10-12 per each. So to replace twice a month adds up quickly. Look online and you will see lots of negative comments from folks having same power issue.Spoke to company and they sent replacement under warranty and within 12 days of installation with new battery, the same situation occurred. They refused to allow the product to be returned and issue a refund. So i have a $300 brick that looks like a standard key lock.I had high hopes, but will look for more reliable replacement. Buyer Beware!

This lock looks very high quality and well designed out of the box. I have owned several name brand smart locks and this by far was the best packaged and easiest to install. The design is very minimalist and hides all the “smart” stuff in the door cavity. You can easily mistake this for any old deadbolt lock which is nice if you want smart lock functionality without the smart lock look. The only branding on this is on the tip of the deadbolt itself which you can only see with the door open. Most people wouldn’t be able to tell this is a smartlock. I would like to see a zwave version of this in the future for those of us not in the homekit ecosystem but it works very well as a standalone lock. You can tell from the way the contact points are designed to the able to be reversible or only snap in one way that a lot of thought was put into the design. The prongs run the full length of the bolt shafts to accommodate different door thicknesses and automatically make contact as you put the lock together. Most smartlocks I’ve used employ some sort of wire to connect the pieces which tends to be a weak point so it was nice to see the clever ways this was eliminated. The app itself doesn’t have much functionality but does show locks/unlock history and allows adding of NFC/sharing digital keys. Without wifi connection you can only see this when you’re close to the lock. Maybe those in the homekit ecosystem get that functionality remotely but I can’t test that. The battery is placed inside the deadbolt itself which is a very clever use of space and allows a battery swap without having to remove the deadbolt. It is a CR2 which is more expensive than your standard AAs most smartlocks use but given the size and design there is no way to fit multiple AAs in this lock. I would however like to see a rechargeable battery version. There are rechargeable CR2s out there so if you do run into the battery issue I would definitely look into that. I haven’t ran into the battery issue others have but I have seen it on other locks so it’s not unheard of. The app itself collects too much information for my liking. It asks for address which is a security risk imo but it does luckily let you skip this. The lock itself is top notch, I’m impressed at the clever use of space. I would say you probably need to be homekit ecosystem to get the full functionality like remote alerts but if you want a truly minimalist smartlock this is about as minimalist as they come.

I was happy and excited to get the lock and install it. Instructions were clear and concise, and it went smoothly. That’s were my love of the love ends. 6 weeks, 6 batteries! That’s totally unacceptable.Tech support is weak on its best day. They take aLong time to answer an email. I sent photos of the lock installation front and back, including the edge or the door and frame were the bolt slides through. They asked “how far is the screen door handle from the deadbolt” it was 11” center to center. They asked this twice. It came to the point were the questions were an insult. Btw. I turned off all the cool features that I bought the lock for, touch to lock, and Auto Unlock. My door is fiberglass, it was installed with a factory frame and is about 10 yrs old. No bindingOr issues of any kind except when using the levelLock. I also bought the keypad, and had the lock rekeyed. So I’m out about $500. DO NOT BUY it is a POS!

Purchased for elderly parent that had care givers in & out of the house – thought this would make access easier…. NO… install took longer than anticipated and then the lock did not work – I need to bill Level for my time trying to make their “lock” work. unfortunately, this is now a donation because I cannot return it – Let the buyer beware! (yeah, I did not read the reviews or I would not have purchased) At least the marketing team did a good job of convincing me the lock worked.
Customer Review –
Theoretically, this lock has tons of great features. Unfortunately, many of those don’t work well.Installation was easy, no more difficult than installing a regular deadbolt. You have to choose how to connect to the lock, with the options being bluetooth, Alexa, or Apple. You can’t use all of these, just one. I first set this up with Alexa and it worked terribly. Thankfully, I have apple devices so I switched to Apple. This worked considerably better, but is still rather slow. I only use Apple for the touch to lock/unlock feature. Everything else it’s better to use the Level app.I turned “Auto Unlock” on and it worked a few times sporadically then stopped working entirely. I’ve since just turned this off to save a bit of battery life.Like most others have said, the battery life is ridiculous. I got a low battery warning 5 days after installing it. Now, it’s still working without changing that battery at 2 weeks, but I assume I’m close to the end of the battery life. This means I’m changing batteries 2x a month, which is totally absurd. One thing I wanted to be able to do, which would work if it actually worked with Alexa, is to lock and unlock remotely. But I can only connect to the lock when I’m in Bluetooth range. The ability to add others to the lock so they can get in and out has, so far, worked okay.If this delivered on what it is supposed to do, it would be priced well. However, with the significant issues, I can’t recommend this product anywhere close to it’s price. The terrible battery life, in particular, is a deal breaker. I would consider this product a good value at around $80.

I received a lemon unit and been in contact with Level support for months, wasting hours trying to receive a replacement unit and return the defected lemon unit I received! The battery runs out very quickly, the app has disconnectivity issues with the Level app, Apple home, and even the physical fob fails often. I don’t know why customer service will not resolve this by simply shipping a replacement unit, especially after months of troubleshooting and wasting my time!

This product has a lot of potential but is really poorly thought out and has design issues. If you are planning to use this with HomeKit, you should know that you lose a number of features from the Level app, because only level or HomeKit can “own” the device at once. You won’t be able to encode the fobs that come with the device, turn off the sound, or any of the other level app features. If you want the thing to close automatically when your door closes, you’ll need to invest separately in a door sensor and set up automation with HomeKit or a similar automation framework. The lock doesn’t come with a sensor and doesn’t know when your door is closed, so all you can really do out of the box is set up a timer. Support is no help. They just told me to use the level app when I complained about the inability to use HomeKit and the level app at the same time. All of that pales in comparison to the rate at which this thing eats batteries. After two months or so, the thing started draining new CR2 batteries within a week. Unfortunately, since you do not get battery alerts when you don’t use the level app, you’ll find out by getting locked out of your house, or by having your house left unlocked unbeknownst to you.At $12 per CR2 battery and burning 4 of them a month, this thing will cost you $50/month to keep working.I threw this thing out, got a U-bolt pro wifi, and never looked back. I recommend you do the same, or better yet just don’t buy this at all. The battery-in-bolt design is cool, but nothing else about this lock is worth the high price tag.

This is an example where the design team and engineering team had a standoff, and the design team won. This lock is beautiful, sleek, elegant. Function is generally OK with some things to consider. More on those below. What I like…- Beautiful design. It looks like a high end regular deadbolt lock.- Easy to install. The same as installing a regular deadbolt.- Digital keys with HomeKit. Work great, as long as the battery isn’t dead.- Works with Alexa, Siri and Google Home.Shortcomings…- Battery life. The single CR 2 battery needs more frequent changing. All of the other five digital locks I’ve owned had four batteries for longer battery life. Overall the cost of batteries works out to be about the same over time, replacing four batteries less often than replacing one, but, and this is significant, if the battery fails, the digital lock doesn’t work, requiring the physical key to open from outside.- No keypad. My use case requires the ability to give out PIN numbers, not everyone has iPhone or Apple Watch. An optional numeric keypad is available at extra cost.Considerations…- If style and appearance, or HomeKit integration are of primary importance, this is a good option. Otherwise, I’d suggest a product with longer battery life and a numeric keypad. There are several available at a lower cost with better battery life and performance. The box included the deadbolt with installed battery, installation hardware, two digital key fobs, two physical keys and a user guide. (see pic)Installation requires only a screwdriver when replacing an existing lock. A free app is available for additional features. I’m using it with my Apple TV serving as a HomeKit hub.I hope this information was helpful to you.—This review is for:Level Lock+ Smart Lock Plus Apple Home Keys – Smart Deadbolt for Keyless Entry – Includes Key Fobs – Works with iOS, Android, Apple HomeKit (Satin Nickel)

No push notifications, really wanted to get a notification each time the door was locked/unlock.No ability to remotely check current door state.Cant use Apple Homekit and Amazon Sidewalk at the same time.No way to remotely unlock the door.Poor battery life, lock would restart every lock/unlock in cold weather. If you try to unlock an unlocked door (you cant see lock/unlock state walking up to the lock) you have to wait a few seconds to unlock it again.Everything in my home is smart connected so I thought I would love these but I just don’t. Even at half the current price I don’t see them as worth it. Maybe as a $25-50 lock I could recommend, as it works fine as a key lock…

This product is horrible! Just because it’s expensive does not mean it’s a better. We have Wyze smart lock and we thought we were upgrading with Level, but NO! This product is a joke. We have to change batteries almost every week, it’s difficult to install, and we have to hold the knob tightly so it would close automatically. We might as well go back to the regular lock and key. Save your money. Look for another smart lock. Better yet, try Wyze. It’s half the price and work much, much better.
