The installation was very easy. Maybe took around 10 minutes to install the door lock itself. My door didn’t have a deadlock so I had to drill a hole to install one. I bought a deadbolt installation kit from Home Depot. The product itself looks good. The build quality seems as expected. No complaints there. I love the fact that it has a fingerprint reader. I considered the U50 which is cheaper but does not have a fingerprint reader. I’m glad I got the one that does because it’s much easier for many of my family members rather than having them pull out their phone to unlock it. Many of the settings are customizable in the app. I can adjust after how long I want the door to lock.Apple HomeKit works amazing too. That is the main reason I bought this product. I have had no issues getting HomeKit to work. I love that I can share the lock with family members and I also like that I can generate a one time password to let guests in the house when I’m not home. You can create automations in the HomeKit app. I created one that will lock the doors after 10:00 PM.I bought this product for $132, and I would recommend it.

I recently upgraded to the Aqara Smart Lock U100, and it has been an absolute game-changer for home security and convenience. Installation was a breeze; the instructions were clear, and it fit perfectly into the existing deadbolt slot on my door. The sleek design adds a modern touch to my home’s entrance, which I appreciate every day.The fingerprint recognition is impressively quick and has not failed me once, even with frequent use. It’s also a huge relief not to worry about forgetting keys or changing locks if a key is lost. The Apple Home Key integration is the standout feature for me – it’s like living in the future. Being able to unlock my door with my Apple Watch is incredibly handy when I come home with my hands full. The Aqara Home app was easy to set up, and I can now manage access remotely, which is perfect for when I have guests or need to let someone in while I’m away. I’ve also set up some automation with other smart home devices, and it’s been working flawlessly.Battery life has been solid; I’ve had it for several months now and haven’t needed to change them yet. The lock also alerts me when the batteries are running low, which is a thoughtful feature. My only gripe is that the auto-lock feature is a bit too eager to lock the door, even when I’m just stepping out to grab the mail. However, this is adjustable, and I found a timing that works better for me.Overall, the Aqara Smart Lock U100 has provided peace of mind with its reliability and has made keyless entry something I can’t imagine living without. Highly recommend for anyone looking to upgrade their home security system!

I bought three of these and have been living with them for over 3 months. I love them 99% of the time! However, my tech-challenged wife threatened to banish them from the house more than once due to frustrating issues. When it works, it works very well and I love the design and features – easy setup, seamless unlocking with my apple watch. But to avoid repeating marketing fluff and other reviewers, I’ll focus on the cons:- They run on alkaline batteries. In addition to being annoying to replace, That makes the motor too weak to overcome rubbing/misaligned striker plates or just plain inoperable below about 20°F (0°F if it’s on a heated house door). My old house is constantly shifting in the Midwestern weather and my striker plates will never stay aligned.- Connectivity with the app is slow at best. Thankfully, I rarely have reason to check the lock status in the app but when I do I’m not fully convinced it’s accurate (showing high battery level even though the lock is not working in the cold temps)- Some doors are not compatible and Aquara could easily offer an adapter kit, but I don’t think they do. I had to get creative with some door modification to get it to install on 1 of 3 doors.BATTERY WORKAROUND: I was able to supercharge one of these locks that was on my unheated garage door by using an AC battery adapter for AA batteries. These are inexpensive devices that power the lock with a wall plug. No more replacing batteries and weak lock function! Every lock operation goes super fast and secures confidently. However, I have to have an unsightly cord running along my door or heavily modify my door to hide the wire. Not an issue for a garage but unacceptable for a house.I’ll be first in line when Aquara offers a more powerful battery version (Lithium Ion?), and in the meantime I’ll enjoy it when it works and try to fend off my wife’s frustrations when it doesn’t. Wish me luck.

I was at a point where my wife would get mad at me if I was home after her work shift and I didn’t unlock the door in time since her keys were always either lost, or deep in her large work bag. I decided to look into something where she didn’t have to worry about her keys anymore and it was simple and reliable for her to use. This solved all our issues. This works with HomeKit almost perfectly except for one thing.I like the fact that the fingerprint reader is accurate and fast. It never feels like we’re waiting too long for it to unlock. It takes maybe about a second to confirm your fingerprint, and then it makes a chime, and then you can hear the door unlock. I haven’t had an issue with the fingerprint reader. I know some people have complained, but I just make sure my fingers are dry and it works 99% of the time. I think the biggest flaw when using the fingerprint reader is the angle that you programmed it at. I would say, program your reader with the door closed, and as close to a real-world scenario so the angle is as accurate as possible.I like that it also has a combination code (6-digits) that you can also program in, just in case your finger is dirty or wet. This is a good back up.I like that it has a physical key as well. I’m still someone that likes to carry my keys everywhere, and it just helps with ease of mind that I know if anything electrical fails (like the battery dying), I still have my physical key to use to enter. I haven’t had any issues with the battery after 6 months, and the app still states that my battery percentage is high. I’m sure they last longer than the stated (8 months).I also like that it integrates with HomeKit. We both have iPhones and being able to use NFC by just tapping our phone on the door is amazing. I usually have my phone in my hands, and this is another cool feature to use, granted I don’t use it as much as the fingerprint reader. Also, I cannot get the HomeKit key to work on my wife’s phone, so I can’t really recommend this as a good working feature. I wanted to be able to just share the key through HomeKit whenever I need to let someone in my home when I’m not there, but the way I’ve been doing that is just unlocking it through the HomeKit app when I know someone is waiting by the door. This takes about 30 seconds for it to unlock, but it’s a nice feature to have when someone needs to get inside your home for an emergency.Overall, I would highly recommend these to anyone looking to get smart home locks. I’ve already received a couple of compliments and when people come over, they ask about them all the time. Don’t spend too much time looking anywhere else, these locks make it easy to enter your home and make sure it is secured at the same time.

I purchased two of these, one for my front door and another for my garage door. The first one I installed was extremely easy and functioned without any issues. The second one on the other hand was an absolute nightmare and doesn’t work.First off with the pros:I was in the market for a smart lock that supports Apple HomeKey, and Aqara beats out the competition with having the most functionality AND being the most affordable. At the time of this writing, there are no other locks on the market that supports HomeKey, physical keys, NFC cards, and a keypad. On my first Aqara lock, everything works amazingly good and is very responsive. My second Aqara lock is another story I’ll discuss in the cons. Now with the cons:I wish it came in a silver/nickel option as most hardware would match it. The gray is a nice color, but it is hard to match as most door handles are usually silver or black. Moving on to my bad experience… The second Aqara lock I installed was a headache. One of the screws that came with the striker plate was completely defective. None of my different sized screwdrivers would seat properly inside the screw because the hole was so shallow. I initially had some traction screwing it in, but halfway through it required more torque which made it impossible to screw all the way in. I was left with a screw halfway in that I couldn’t even remove. I needed to go to the hardware store to buy a tool to get it out. This wouldn’t be a big deal, but I couldn’t leave my house as my front door won’t close and I was alone at the time! Absolute nightmare. Moral of the story, check your screws, before it screws you. Even after getting it successfully installed, that wasn’t the worst of my problems. The lock itself was constantly malfunctioning. It would go into this endless locking loop making the lock unusable (as shown in my video). After endless troubleshooting and reinstalling, I’m deeming this as a defective item.I want to give Aqara the benefit of the doubt, but it does leave me with the impression that there is some hit or miss build quality issues. If you do receive a working unit, it is an amazing product, which is why I’ll be requesting a replacement rather than returning it altogether. My only fear is how well this lock will hold up considering my experience so far. Only time will tell…Update 1: I got a replacement, and I am no longer experiencing issues as I did with my first unit. Initially I thought it may be an issue with my door set up, but that was definitely not the case. However, I am dropping my rating from 3 stars to 2 stars. I am now getting annoying malfunctions with the other lock that was considered fine in my initial review. The lock is beeping at random hours of the day and it’s driving me insane. It’s the same beep that happens as if I’m touching and waking the lock, but I’m obviously not. I also had one occurrence where the keypad glitched out and I was unable to lock my door from the outside. I was forced to use my other door to leave my house. The issue hasn’t happened again, but this experience does not sit well with me. I am getting the impression you really do get what you pay for. You may be better off spending more money for a more reliable lock.Update 2: Further dropping my rating from 2 to 1 stars. After only 3 weeks of use, I already got a low battery alert. This product is absolute trash and all of it is going back. Don’t bother with this cheap and poorly built lock.

FYI: I’m judging this lock based on both my experience with it so far AND in comparison to our Level Lock Plus, which is the “other” Apple Home Key compatible lock. We’ve been using our Level Lock Plus for about a year now and it’s been a surprising disappointment. We incorrectly assumed that the build quality, marketing, US support, etc. meant it would do what we needed it to do. It didn’t.So when we got a sale notice from Amazon on the Agara lock we figured we should give it a try.The documentation (which is available online when you scan the QR code in the box) could be better but the installation is just about what you’d expect. If you’ve installed smart locks before you’ll be fine. The build quality of the lock is good, though if you’ve already had a “higher-end” lock like Levels it will feel cheaper. I don’t believe it’s cheaper in a way that would shorten the life of the lock or hinder its use in any way. It’s a good quality product. The app, like the documentation, could be better. It’s not as intuitive as most others and the keyboard (in iOS anyway) has a habit of covering the screen so you can’t see what you’re typing. It’s a minor annoyance at best when you compare the functionality…This lock easily beats any of the locks I’ve had to date. It provides access via HomeKey and most NFC devices, a code with the integrated keypad, accurate fingerprint access, and a conventional key which is included (x2).Each user can store up to 10 prints which seem like overkill but I’ll take it. Each individual print is saved using a collection of 6 scans (just like Apple’s TouchID) and while I rarely use it, it’s never failed to open the door on the first try.But if HomeKit and HomeKey are your primary reason for purchasing this lock just stop reading and buy it.With the Level Lock you have to wake and unlock your device before it’ll unlock the door. I use both an iPhone and an Apple Watch. The Apple Watch refuses to open the level lock 90% of the time. Our cameras send us a notification when we get to the door so we need to clear that notification and return to the home screen for the lock to have any hope of opening. Most of the time it still doesn’t.But the Aqara lock just works. Notification? It doesn’t care. In Facebook? No problem. The HomeKey implementation is bulletproof. No fiddling or having to mess with stuff. If you hold either device to the lock it opens. We tested the Aqara U100 because our Level Lock was very unstable and uncooperative. The reason we switched was because the Level lock started unlocking on its own. We lock up and leave and the lock opens by itself 15 seconds later. Thus far the U100 has shown NO signs of being prone to similar faults. Conclusion: The Aqara U100 is a great lock. Its battery lasts longer and it performs far better than the presumed market leader by every metric. Can’t see a reason to buy anything else.Congratulations Aqara! You put out a fantastic product.Thank you for it.

This Smart Lock is one of the best ones out there and after doing some research, it’s one with the most reliable fingerprint reader which honestly makes it very secure and easy to use, much easier than punching in a codeI love that it is compatible with Apple Home and the smart features it brings with. It can detect when the door is closed and open which adds peace of mind, just needs a few straightforward calibrations through the app.The noise the lock makes is below average for these locks and i love that. There is an audible alarm when too many incorrect attempts have been made and it also alarms you if the door didn’t lock all the way for whatever reason, useful when you’re locking up and walking away to the car, you can hear the alert which makes you double take and walk back to check if everything is locked appropriately. The video attached shows how quick and smart the lock works, it will lock itself when it detects the door closed.I would buy again and recommended to my family.

Fingerprint works well and the code as well. The auto lock works well after closing which is awesome. The NFC doesn’t work for any phones pixel 6 and iPhone 14. Not a deal breaker. Perhaps I did not do enough research but it did say it was compatible with Google home which I assumed it can connect. It cannot as you need a separate device to do so and I was turned off by this. It was easy to install at least. First time I ordered it was clearly used so I sent it back. Second one the installation process was started as you can clearly see the template was used for previous installation. The lock looked new and I missed my window to return so I installed it anyways…just wavers trust imo. All this and it gets 3 stars and if it works for long time with no issues as is, I’ll change to 4 stars.

We’ve been using this lock for a few months now and we’ve really enjoyed it. A very good purchase. The fingerprint reader is very fast. I haven’t had the need to use the key yet. I’ve only used my phone with Apple’s home kit a couple of times because the fingerprint scanner works so fast. I do like all the features that you can use with the app. There is a little bit of a learning curve with it but it’s because you can do an awful lot with it. Locking and unlocking it remotely is super nice. I got the lock on sale so it was definitely worth it.I only have a few complaints about the lock.1. You can’t get any extra keys for the lock. It looks like a normal key but when I went to Home Depot to get more made they couldn’t make one. I haven’t tried a locksmith yet. From some of the videos I saw online you have to get the key part replaced if you want to use a standard type key.2. Another thing that was a bother is if you want to unlock or lock it remotely you have to use one of their HUB’s. You can’t just use your homes router. So there is that bit of extra expense.3. If you want to use Apples Homekit and let family members unlock it with their phone or watch you have to have some type of Apple hub if you want to let family members open it with their phones or Apple watches. Although the fingerprint scanner works so fast that I’ve only used my phone to unlock the door a couple of times. The fingerprint scanner is just faster.

Be aware if you are buying this expecting to be able to lock/unlock your door remotely, you will need an Aqara hub which is sold separately. Or, if you plan to use Apple HomeKit integration, your Apple HomePod or Apple TV can serve as a hub and let you remote lock/unlock, but if you want all of the functionality be available remotely, Aqara hub is required.Other than that, this lock is amazing, it’s beautiful to look at, outward facing side is very sturdy. It lets you unlock using pin, fingerprints, or simply bring your Apple Watch/iPhone near. The only other complaint I have is replacing battery requires paying off the interior plastic piece, it’s being held by plastic tabs that clicks into the housing. This type of assembly is not designed to handle repeated use, I hope it’s battery last long enough that I don’t need to replace it very many time during the life time of the lock, otherwise this is likely the first thing to fail. Would much rather it uses machines screw, or a latch mechanism more common for battery compartment.
